Choosing the Right Nicotine Strength for You

Many people in the Vape Wild family have transitioned from smoking cigarettes to vaping and we feel an often overlooked contributor to their success was selecting the right nicotine strength in the early going. Ideally you should select a nicotine strength for your e-liquid that closely matches the nicotine intake you experienced when you were a smoker.

Selection

Most of our e-liquids have nicotine strengths in a range from 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 milligrams of nicotine per milliliter. This is great for variety, but may be overwhelming to a first time vaper. And though you’ll find that no particular nicotine level translates exactly to the nicotine you’d consume from a cigarette for a variety of reasons, you’ll find there are some general rules of thumb to make the decision easier. Here is our rule of thumb…

Rule of Thumb

For beginners new to vaping, using a common e-cig setup such as an eGo device, we generally recommend the following rule of thumb depending on your previous level of smoking:

The above guidelines are not exact, so don’t be concerned if you fall outside of this range. If your e-liquid arrives and it’s a little too harsh to you, then perhaps try a lower nicotine strength. Or if you find it’s not giving you enough of a satisfying throat hit, then you can try increasing your nicotine strength on your next order. Over time we recommend trying to lower your nicotine levels for the best overall vaping experience, as your taste buds will adapt and flavors will become more vibrant to you at the lower nicotine levels.

Too much nicotine?

Vapers who intake too much nicotine over a period of time can experience “nicotine sickness” and it’s one of the largest contributing factors as to why someone may give up on vaping and return to smoking. Nicotine sickness symptoms can include dizziness, nausea and headache. Though these symptoms are typically only experience for a short amount of time, it’s still an unpleasant experience and we don’t want to see that happen to you.

The best way to avoid feeling sick from too much nicotine is to simply choose a lower nicotine strength if you find that you are vaping with more frequency than you were smoking in the past. Increased vaping frequency isn’t a necessity due to a lack of effectiveness or satisfaction from e-liquid. It just tends to happen due to convenience or pleasure. Sometimes vapers increase the amount they vape due to no longer needing to get up and leave an indoor area to go smoke. Others might vape more simply because they love the experience of vaping and all the great flavors.

Success

Of course nicotine isn’t the only factor that determines your ability to succeed, the flavor and PG/VG blend certainly contribute as well. We try to make the flavor and blend selection much easier for first time vapers with our tobacco flavors, which are designed with the perfect blend of flavors to enhance what we feel most smokers prefer. We believe these tobacco flavors greatly increase the first time vapers chances of success.
